How to Turn Off DIRECTV Genie Power Saving Mode
The new DIRECTV Genie menus are an improvement over their predecessors. These new menus are more organized and offer easy access to most of your commonly used functions. There is one thing you need to know about your new residential Genie menu – it comes with its power saving mode turned on. This turns off video after four hours if no buttons on the remote are pushed. It’s called “power saving mode” because the TV turns off after four hours, thus saving you power. For most people, this is a convenience.
So, who would want to turn off this function on their DIRECTV Genie menu? Anyone who likes leaving the TV on as background noise. For example, what if someone is hosting a party and they want a music or sports station to play continuously? It would be a little embarrassing, not to mention inconvenient, for these folks to have to turn their DIRECTV back on after it has shut down. Fortunately, there’s an easy way to disable this power saving mode in your DIRECTV Genie menu. As your satellite TV expert, Signal Connect shows you how to easily disable this power saving mode on your DIRECTV Genie menu.
Here are some easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions on disabling power saving mode on your residential DIRECTV Genie menu:
Press MENU on the remote.
Arrow left so “What’s On Now” is highlighted.
Now Arrow down so “Settings” is highlighted.
Arrow right until “Power Saving” is highlighted. Press SELECT.
Here in the Power Saving menu, you can arrow down to turn off Power Saving. When you are done, press EXIT to get back to live TV.
It’s just that easy.
As you can see, it’s very easy to turn off the power saving mode on your DIRECTV Genie receiver. Turning it back on is equally simple. It’s just a matter of using these same directions to get into the menu and turn this mode back on. You can turn your power saving mode on and off as many times as you like.
What About Commercial DIRECTV Accounts?
Do you have a commercial DIRECTV account and are wondering about the power saving mode? If so, you can relax. First of all, if you have a commercial account, you wouldn’t have a DIRECTV Genie. Secondly, commercial receivers come with the power saving mode turned off, and it cannot be turned back on. Once in a blue moon, a customer will get a commercial receiver that has its power saving mode turned on. This is quickly resolved within a day or two when the receiver automatically updates its software.
